Chastain Park

Chastain Park, located in the northern part of Atlanta, Georgia, holds a rich history and a variety of amenities for residents and visitors alike. Originally inhabited by Creek Indians, the land was acquired by DeKalb County in 1840 for town hall meetings and later sold to Fulton County to build an almshouse for the poor. In the early 20th century, the area saw the construction of the North Fulton Alm House in a Neoclassical style. By 1940, under the direction of Fulton County Commissioner Troy Green Chastain and with help from the Works Progress Administration, the area began its transformation into a residential neighborhood. A large portion of the land was developed into what is now known as “North Fulton Park,” featuring amenities such as the North Fulton Golf Course, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, tennis courts, and more. In 1946, to honor Commissioner Chastain’s contributions, the park was renamed “Chastain Memorial Park”.
